Everyone has or will encounter a difficult situation in life where they must deal with the emotional pain of getting over a broken relationship. Both S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders and Kesha  “Praying” use this human emotion to show how difficult it is to get over an emotional pain, but also to go past that and make peace with yourself. In both stories we learn that When something or someone knock you down you got to get back up.

 

A common theme in both texts is that dealing with past pain and moving on will make you stronger. In “The Outsiders” For example, Pony boy got jumped by the gangs called the socs, but even though that happened he kept moving forward. Another example is when Pony Boy got attacked at the park he still moved forward and got stronger. An example in Keshas song “Praying”  she said “Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell” It shows that she probably was in a abusive relationship or abusive, she feels pain. She then states “I’m proud of who I am, no more monsters I can breathe again” She gets back up and moves forward stronger than before. In both texts, the characters are negatively affected by relationships with others and want to find inner peace.

 

Although both texts show how to deal with negative relationships, there are differences between how that theme occurs in the two text. S.E. Hinton the outsiders show negatively dealing with pain, for example when Johnny was getting bullied he retaliated and killed one of the socs member. In Kesha’s song “Praying” she states “Cause I can make it on my own, and I don’t need you, I can make it on my own” It shows that even though she got knocked down she fought through it and did not let anything stop her. She is stronger individual than she was before.

 

In both “The Outsiders” and “Praying” S.E. Hinton and Kesha articulate the importance of dealing with the pain you endure in life and finding peace within yourself. After studying both the story and the song, readers might conclude that it is up to the person and how they deal with the difficult times; you can either store the pain and hurt people around you, or you can get back up when knocked down and show that you can take it.

S.E. Hinton’s book the outsiders take place in a bad environment in the hood, a place where the greasers and the socs live. The conflict is the Greasers and the Socs are rival gangs and both hates each other’s guts. The lesson you learn is “you should look out and stick with your family, and Friends in any situation”.

In the very beginning of the story you can see the precise claim, for example “he heard a muttered curse and got slugged again”, Pony Boy said. The his brother Dally came and scared off the Sacs. That relates to the theme because he is there for his brother who was getting beat up by the Socs. Another example of the claim is when Johnny was with Pony Boy at the movie were there were a lot of the Socs. He was there so he did not get jumped and not the only greaser.

By the middle of the story, readers start to see the gangs start to get violent and physical, and also mad at each other. First Bob was bullying Ponyboy and then Johnny ends up stabbing bob, in self-defense. The two gangs organized a rumble were the two gangs fight and solve it.

The Socs are mad at the greasers for killing one of their people bob. It could be said that the Socs are mad. It is a good point that the socs are mad, but would not have been that mad at each other if Johnny have not killed bob, but it was self-defense. This shows that both of the gangs are mad in their own ways. The socs because one of their friends or family died.

In the end of the story you can see sad, and more sadness. Johnny passed away saving children from a burning building witch made the greasers sad but still stayed together no matter what. Dally got chased and shot from the police but the gang stayed together and kept moving past that. The gangs start to see all that they have caused and did to hurt each other. They threw away the hate and the madness at each other and became close. They looked out and stick together throughout any situation.

The setting is bases in a not really good environment, it is kindave like the hood. It is two sides the east and west the west side is where the socs are they are richer than the east. Pony boy and the others are in the east side the hood part. They call them greasers like hoods. It said on page 3, 1st paragraph.

The main character is Pony Boy, and he goes through a lot of challenges to face for example he gets jumped by the socs. He is also a smart kid though he is not like the others he actually feels.

One dry scorching hot day at black hawk middle 3rd period gym, it was the finals in flag football everyone pumped up. The gym teacher took attendance looking around everyone eager to win. It was not just any flag football game it was the best teams going against each other for the championship game. All the students were doing quick warmups, everyone pushing each other to get outside for the run around the back stop, everyone one zooming. They got the finish everyone huffing and puffing from the run. We all jogged over to get our flags it was game time.

It was kickoff The heated all-stars and the opponents. The all-stars kicked it down the other team catching it running it back to the to the halfway mark shedding people from taking the flag, but gets down at the half. The other team hiked the ball the line rushing the quarterback 1bannana, 2bannana, 3 rushing the quarter back full speed no hesitation ripping the flag of the students side. The all-stars were happy but they hiked it when the all-stars weren’t even ready getting the easy touchdown.

Now the opponent kicking it off to the heated all-stars they run it down 50, 40, 30, the opponent quickly slashed the flag off the opponents waist barely taking It off. The all-stars hiked the ball, through it to the girl down deep and, one handed it in the touchdown. The all-stars were impressed from the girl so impressed they let her get the ball more often. They kicked t off to the opponents, the opponents didn’t get very far but still did not stop without putting up a fight. The opponents didn’t get very far they had to punt it away. The all-stars got the punt return dodging people hand trying to take the flag off, they got room touchdown!

The score was 7 to 14 gym class was almost over the opponent down by 1 touchdown. The all-stars had a game plan when they kick it off but the opponent had even a better one. The heated all-stars kicked the ball off to the opponents the girl got it on their team they made a circle around the girl with the ball running down the field people struggling getting to the middle, and Touchdown opponent. The gym teacher sounded the whistle it was a tie game 14 to 14. The heated all-stars sad but still glad how good they did. The all-stars had their heads down but the opponents came up to them and said “good game”. The all-stars said it back, thee heated all-stars captain said “we could of did better, but I am proud of you guys”.

Everyone one was back in the locker room everyone talking and happy over the game, and people were talking trash, and everyone one was laughing and just having a good time. The bell ringed everyone still smiling leaving the gym class one by one, they went on with their day still fine. It was a good day one of the students said.

It was just another day at Black hawk Middle school 3rd period in gym class with everyone ready to play a good game of football. Everyone getting dressed up to play with game faces on. Students were doing warm ups everyone eager to go out and dominate on the field. There was the two best teams going against each other everyone out of breath from the run around the backstop. We took a breather and got our flags The Heated all-stars vs the other team. The heated all-stars kicked the ball off to the other team the heated all-stars rushing down the field full speed no hesitation students ripped the flag off straight off the opponents waist.

It was first down they snapped the ball launched back and faked it to the man deep, turning and then start running to the sideline full speed, just missing the 1st down. The girl QB snapped the ball and then threw the ball deep and, the heated all-stars students picked it off running full speed back 50, 40, 30, and then pulled the flag. The heated all-stars happier than ever. The students hiked the ball spun and the opponent missed the flag then launches it deep, Catches it in the end zone and touchdown! The heated all-stars are happy to get the touchdown, they go for the extra point hand off and the extra point is good! The heated all-stars kicked it off to the opponents, they catch it and make it the half way mark before getting their flag ripped off from the heated all-stars. It was 1st down with the other team ready to eat up. The other team hands it off juke move going, going, touchdown opponents.
